New Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Build

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Since quite a many Geeks use Mac OS X I figured this might be of some interest to some folks out of our 16 or so readers we currently have. Think Secret has posted that Apple has sent out a new Leopard build to developers offering a few UI tweaks including a "separator" graphic in the Dock that seems to be seen as a "new feature". Not sure how a separator graphic can be seen as a new feature but oh well.

Looks nifty don’t get me wrong. But for some reason - Leopard really isn’t as jaw-dropping as I was expecting from Apple. Then again I’m not really an Mac OS X user so if the OS X users are happy with the update that’s what counts right?

What’s this about a 2nd Gen Zune delay?

Friday, July 27th, 2007

According to Engadget - there is a delay in the upcoming 2nd Generation Zune devices. There’s more to the story with lots of unofficial information, codenames, etc… but… How he HELL can there be a flippin’ delay in something that hasn’t been officially announced by Microsoft? Just because something accidentally leaks hardly categorizes as a delay in my opinion. For all we know, those codenames refer to new Zune headphones or perhaps a better Zune cloth case that isn’t so much like a condom.

Both The Geek and I are Zune users so you can bet we’re watching the Zune news carefully.

Indiana Jones and Iron Man Websites Updated

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Indiana Jones 4  and Iron Man are just a few movies I am really excited for coming up in 2008. Awesome uber-geek-movie stuff is coming out of San Diego Comic Con this week.

indianajones4

According to ComingSoon.net (one of my favorite movie sites on the net) - IndianaJones.com has received an update which includes new desktop wallpapers for the upcoming fourth Indy flick. However, I am unable to download any of the wallpapers off their updated site with either IE7 and Firefox. Anyone else having issues?

I am going to keep trying… I want the new wallpapers damnit!

ironman

And the Iron Man website is updated with the new graphic of the Iron Man helmet. Looks awesome. I seriously can’t wait for this movie. Iron Man Director Jon Favreau has a MySpace Iron Man movie group going where he often interacts with Iron Man fans which I think is the coolest thing ever. The mere fact Jon makes time to come out and talk with fans about the movie is just awesome. I would keep my eye on Jon for future films as well. I predict he’s going to become a great director of many cool films to come.

I am following stuff coming out of San Diego Comic Con and will probably make another blog post tomorrow about a few more things.

This post was written using Windows Live Writer.

By your powers combined.

captain_planet.jpg

Well the “genius’s” at MIT have came up with another “Idea” on sustainable energy. They want to harness your energy and create power. You are probably wondering how in the world they got Captain Planet to sign on to this project, since to this day he is the only one being that I know of that can harness the power of others. But no, no, the high top fade superhero is not helping out on this one.

Here is how they want to do it.

“A Crowd Farm in Boston’s South Station railway terminal would work like this: A responsive sub-flooring system made up of blocks that depress slightly under the force of human steps would be installed beneath the station’s main lobby. The slippage of the blocks against one another as people walked would generate power through the principle of the dynamo, a device that converts the energy of motion into that of an electric current.” Huh?

I’m not the smartest bloak in the pub but what they are saying they want to do is lay down squishy mats that you walk on that create friction through IC’s and are centrally connected to one hub, thus creating a electrical current that can be moderated through a power station and delegated through the central hub. Seems like a good idea. But lets break it the whole human power element down. According to Graham and Jusczy the MIT students that developed this idea says, a single human step can only power two 60W light bulbs for one flickering second. But get a crowd in motion, multiply that single step by 28,527 steps, for example, and the result is enough energy to power a moving train for one second. So whenever the Stones roll into town will be the day our trains will run on time??

I know I am going a bit overboard and being overly sarcastic in my judgement, but honestly I really enjoy these types of “Ideas”, but the thing that really gets under my skin are guys like these two. They likely are in the higher echelon for IQ, and they come up with ideas that most likely will never happen in our lifespan. Why not convert all that energy and time into something we can use today. The whole plan they have is great, getting people to generate power, getting people out and about, its all great.

But I am so tired of people coming up with ideas for sustainable energy that could never be adapted in out lifetime. The only way for any of us to see this in our country or really any country would have to start with the politicians, we would have to abolish them. 2nd, corporations would have to stop being greedy, and so many people would go against the grain, not for any reason just because.

I commend them on the cool idea, but now take your ideas and transform them to something we can use today.

Second Rotation Buys Your Old Gadgets

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

secondrotation.jpg

If you want to dump off your old cellphone, camera or MP3 player but don’t want to deal with the hassle of not getting robbed off Craigslist, check out Second Rotation. These guys have a gigantic “bluebook”-like list of what gadgets are worth and will pay you cash money within ten days of receiving the item (provided it’s not in horrible condition). Sure, it’s going to be less than what you’d get from selling it to some rando on eBay, but dealing with a company rather than some strange seems safer and more convenient to us. Flying the friendlier skies. How about some gadgets?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

With United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAUA) finally clocking in a steady stream of profits in this second quarter they decided to give some of it back to its customers in the way of some really, really nice amenities. They call this new program The International United Business Experience. They will be the first US carrier to offer full blown lay flat beds in business class. As well as getting the new nifty seats you will be immersed into a world of gadgetry. Each seat offers on-demand audio and video with more then 150 hours of movies and TV, they will be supplied with a 15.4 LCD. They will offer up to 2o channels of stored XM audio. You even get an area to charge your IPOD (What no Zune support :x), all of these services will be offered in up to 14 languages as well.

International United Business seat amenities will include:

  • Forward- and rear-facing seats configured to allow customers to completely recline 180º to a full 6-foot, 4-inch bed
  • Four-way lumbar support and six-way adjustable headrest
  • An ottoman providing additional storage for a laptop or other personal items
  • Ergonomically designed tray table that comfortably accommodates a laptop and other items
  • iPod adapter that enables customers to play their own music and videos on the seat’s entertainment unit while recharging the iPod
  • Universal Serial Bus (USB) port to charge personal electronic devices, such as personal digital assistants, mobile phones and digital cameras
  • Standard 110v power outlets requiring no adapter
  • Adjustable LED reading light with dimmer
  • Noise cancelling headphones

Expect to start seeing these changes done early fall on all of the international fleet of 97 wide-body B767’s, B747 and the B777 (mmmm triple 7) aircraft’s.

I know who I will be flying with when I fly international.

More info at UAL’s site . Rumors are flying around that Apple and UAL are working on some slick amenities as for the futur.

I say full steam United, its great to see a US airline back in the running internationally and out of chapter 11.

Too much time, to many welfare checks.

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

I am not one to pre-judge someone, ok, I am. But this DIY project seems like it comes from the hands of someone with way way to much time on their hands. But you know what thats ok. Only on the interweb can this person be held to the highest regards, a hero in some eyes. The cunning lad “Joe” had a little extra time to wait for his potion macro to compile so he could raise his manna by 50%, so what did he decide to make. An automatic toilet flusher to impress his guests. But wait it records how many times you secrete your bodily functions as well, I am really surprised their is no “load” leveling option, but I tip my hat to this guy, because honestly I could not do it. But just maybe if I was unemployed and received monthly welfare checks, lived in my aunts basement, (because my mom kicked me out because the smell and the heat rose too much, for a women even with anosmia it was just to much) made dooty way too much, I think I could maybe pull it off.

dsc00917.jpg

Click pic to see this thing it its full glory.

Joe built this thing to save him from holding down the toilet handle for 10 seconds every time he flushes.

Upon further research its not just one guy its two, and these guys are pretty advanced sorry for the negative words, check out there site they actually have developed some pretty cool stuff. Good luck with the projects.

MORE WIMAX, MORE, MUHAHAHA!!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

For me WIMAX and the whole idea of broadcasted open public free wireless is a thing of beauty. I live for anything that’s wireless and free like slurpee’s . Granted the proposed 37 city wireless project is probably the biggest yet. But don’t be a doubter some of the biggest names in the biz are backing the project like Cisco and Big Blue.

The project is estimated to cost $85-150 million. It will be broadcasted through the silicon valley area, the first test nodes will be in Palo Alto and San Carlos, they will start later this year on testing. I pray for the boys up in the Silicon Forest to start a project like this. The final network will probably start construction around 2008. Google where ya at on the funding??? Oh I forgot they are to busy trying to bribe the FCC…cough cough.

Rock Band Now Available…..sort of

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

rock-band-07-23.jpg
While prices and release dates for Rock Band have been floating for a while now, it looks like things may have finally settled down, with the entire kit now available for pre-order at a couple of retailers. If you’re ready to go all out, you can snag a bundle for either the 360 or PS3 that includes the game, guitar, microphone, and drum set for $199, although you’ll still have to wait until November 20th to actually get it. The whole lot is also available individually, with the game running $60, the microphone $30, and the drum set $80. Somewhat curiously, the 360 version of the wireless guitar is listed at $80 on both Amazon and GameStop, while the PS3 version only costs $50, although GameStop still says that the prices are “subject to change.”
